Songs of Solidarity

Description

Join us for an evening of community singing with song leader Geneva Toland! Geneva will teach simple, dynamic, call and echo songs on the theme of community, unity, and solidarity. Participants are invited to sing for some or all of the songs, or to just come and be serenaded by fellow community members. No experience or proficiency in singing is necessary at all – we are not here to sing “good,” we are just here to sing together. All ages are welcome and all songs will be led to be safe, welcoming, and liberatory for all voices. May the power of song weave us deeper into interdependence!

Geneva Toland is a writer, songleader, naturalist, and facilitator currently living in the juniper and piñon pine foothills of the La Platas, homelands of the Ute, Diné and Puebloan peoples. After working as a farmer and outdoor educator for many years, Geneva has devoted the last few years towards her MFA in Poetry at the Institute for American Indian Arts and training in song circle facilitation. She feels lucky to spend her time teaching creative writing workshops, leading monthly song circles, playing with kids in the woods, and writing towards justice & equity with the organization Fierce Allies. Geneva believes these times need our writing, art, songs and all other creative inspirations to weave us back into authentic, expressive, and interdependent community. May our muses mold us into alive & awake humans capable of living in right relationship with ourselves, our loves, and our homes.
