Anxiety Club

Description

Funny, deep and hopeful, ANXIETY CLUB captures the experience of anxiety through the eyes of comedians and explores their efforts to overcome their angst.

“Genuine and grounded … a very human and surprisingly uplifting film about what it’s like to live with anxiety and how humor can be a lifeline.”
– Louisa Moore (Screen Zealots)
Directed by Wendy Lobel, Anxiety Club takes viewers behind the curtain of stand-up comedy to explore anxiety not as punchline but as lived experience. The film interweaves stand-up performances, sketch videos, intimate interviews and therapy sessions to follow a cohort of comedians—including Marc Maron, Tiffany Jenkins, Aparna Nancherla, Mark Normand, Baron Vaughn, Eva Victor and Joe List—as they navigate the anxieties that fuel their art and their lives. Among its sequences: Tiffany Jenkins openly undergoes exposure therapy, Joe List participates in guided meditation with teacher Tara Brach, and others reflect on how anxiety drives creativity, performance, fear and laughter. In this way, the documentary offers a compelling blend of vulnerability and humor—showing anxiety’s shadow and its surprising power in the comedy world.
