CONSIDER THIS is a 60 minute romp through the pre-history of Western theater, from Greek Tragedy to Commedia dell’Arte, Clown, Buffoon, masks and more – theatrical styles rediscovered and developed by the celebrated Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Theater Grottesco, the celebrated troupe based in Santa Fe New Mexico, takes over where Lecoq leaves off, showcasing modern styles in the continuous development of the oldest art form on the planet.

The performance opens with a reflection and a question: ‘There were times when theater artists were changing the world. Are they still?’ The performance unfolds as a journey through the creation of each style as a response to social and political movements.

Enjoy the irreverence of Theater Grottesco, one of the United States’ most creative theatrical ensembles while they share the philosophy and the many theatrical styles that make up their imaginative original plays. CONSIDER THIS… has toured throughout the United States and in Colombia in 2014.

Learn more about Theater Grottesco here.

This performance is about an hour long and there will be a Q&A following the performance.

Presence and Ensemble

What is theatre?  It often begins with a script on the page, but it doesn’t have to necessarily.

Some theatrical performances are developed through physical and improvisational techniques, where the information comes from the bodies and voices of the performers. This is what we explore in this workshop.

Presence and Ensemble are the foundations of physical performance. All physical
styles start here. The work is also fundamental for all styles of theater and for film.
Individuals will work on instinctual response, rhythm, a relaxed, heightened energy and
an economy of movement. Ensemble Training is about adjusting personal rhythms and
instincts to the group; the balance of space; imagery through movement and sound;
focusing the audiences attention and the dynamics of “play”.

Come prepared to move with loose clothing, jewelry removed and hair back. We work barefoot. Workshop will be 2-3 hours.
